VERY SCARE ENGRAVED Savage, Model 1899 Leader Grade, TAKE-DOWN, CAL: marked 32-40, MFG: 1910, SN: 107372, Lever Action Rifle, 26'' Round barrel. A rare documented Factory Engraved rifle, as less than 1,000 engraved 1899 rifles were produced. This rifle featuring a beautiful factory B grade engraving by noted Savage Master engraver Enoch Tue, who was employed at the Savage's Utica plant from 1901 until 1926. The B grade patterns on the receiver consist of panel scrollwork surrounding circular vignettes of a mortally wounded bull elk on the left side & a doe deer on the right side. The receiver ring, top of the receiver, both sides of the lever boss are all engraved in foliate, simple triangle patterns or border line work. The select walnut forearm & serpentine pistol grip, perch belly stock feature fancy ''B'' grade carving & fine checkering. Additional fine checkering is found on the stock flats. The wood retains the majority of the original high gloss finish, thinning some from light use & with few minor handling marks. The original metal blue finish on the barrel rates 85%, while the receiver has typically worn gun metal gray. Bore is excellent. The rifle is fitted with a Marbles flip-up tang sight, Lyman folding two-leaf rear sight & Lyman half moon blade front sight with ivory bead. Matching numbers are found on the receiver, barrel, forearm & buttstock. Buttstock Savage logo plastic buttplate. The caliber of this rifle is also rare & typically brings an additional 20% premium. The engraving & other special order features are specified & confirmed in the accompanying Savage Factory Records Letter. This rifle has a fabulous appearance & is a highly collectible factory engraved rifle.* FFL or C&R - Value: 10000 to 15000
