RARE Sharps, New Model 1863 Civil War Carbine, CAL: 50-70, MFG: 1863-65, SN: C27823, Single Shot Lever Action Falling Block Rifle, 22'' Round barrel. The straight grip walnut wood stocks are excellent & solid, with a tight 2 1/2'' hairline crack along the tang at the right side of the wrist. The stocks carry the original finish, with a thin layer of protective finish & minor scrapes & contusions. The metal blue finish on the barrel has toned to a mix of remaining original blue thinning to a brown patina. The case-hardened receiver has toned mostly gun metal gray, with nice remnants of case-colors in more protected areas. There is light areas of pitting on the checkered hammer & barrel. Top of barrel marked ''SHARPS RIFLE/MANUFG CO./ HARTFORD CONN.'' before the rear sight & ''NEW MODEL 1863'' between the breechblock & the rear sight. The rear sight marked ''R.S. LAWRENCE /PATENTED /FEB 15TH 1859''. The left side of the receiver is marked ''C. SHARPS' PAT. /Sept. 12th 1848,'' right side of lockplate is marked ''R.S. LAWRENCE PAT/APRIL 12TH 1859'' & ''C. SHARPS' PAT./OCT. 5TH 1852''. The left side of barrel before breechblock with ''E.A.W'' inspector mark. Bore is very good, with intermittent speckling & spotting. The barrel holds the original flip-up ladder sight & a blocked blade front sight, which has been file altered. Buttstock carries a smooth metal buttplate. Original saddle ring on slide bar. Overall, a very nice example of an early Civil War carbine.* Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 3000 to 5000
