Fiala Arms, Model 1920 , CAL: 22 Long Rifle, MFG: 1920, SN: 1894, Manually-operated repeating pistol, 3'' Rifled, 7 1/2'' rifled, & 20'' smooth bore barrels. The Fiala Model 1920 was a manually-operated repeating pistol in .22LR caliber that was marketed with the backing of famed polar explorer Anthony Fiala. The guns came as a set of one frame, three barrels (3", 7.5", & 20") & a removable shoulder stock. This allowed the owner to set the gun up in whichever configuration they liked. This set proceeded when the NFA placed regulations on pistols with shoulder stocks. Today, these guns may still be used with the stock, as they have been specifically exempted from the NFA, because of their historical & collectible value. Mechanically, the Fiala is unusual because despite its appearance it is not a semiautomatic design. Instead, the shooter must manually operate the slide between shots. This made the gun less expensive to manufacture, & theoretically more reliable. Although well built, these sets were not very successful, as they were viewed as more of a novelty & because there were numerous semi-automatic alternatives available. As a result, fewer than 4000 sets were produced, making them fairly rare & collectible. The original wood grips, forend & stock are all excellent, as refinished. There are minor handling marks, contusions & scratches. The metal blue finish on the 20'' barrel rates 90% with spotty areas of loss. The finish on the 7 1/2'' & 3'' barrels & the frame rate 70% overall, with small blemishes, surface scratches & speckling. Areas of loss are toning to a brown patina. Bores are excellent, with the 7 1/2'' barrel rating very good. Factory flip-up rear & front blade sights. Detachable mag. The set comes complete & stored in the original rebuilt, locking hard case, with original interior. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 1500 to 3000
