RARE Winchester, Model 1876 ''Centennial Rifle'', Full Rifle Musket, 3rd Variation, CAL: 45-75, MFG: 1882, SN: 28939, Lever Action Rifle, 31 1/2'' Round barrel, Full mag. The Model 1876 was originally referred to as the Centennial Rifle due to its introduction in the same year as America's Centennial anniversary. Nearly the entire production of the big Model 1876 Winchester was devoted to rifle manufacture. There were few Carbines & Rifle Muskets produced. Total production of all Model 1876's was a mere 63,871. In comparison, Winchester produced 720,609 Model 1873's. These relatively low production numbers for a Winchester model 1876, make it the least common of all the Winchester lever action rifles of the pre-1900 era. While all Model 1876 Winchesters are scarce, Rifle Muskets are considered a very scare special variant. The original straight grip wood stocks are very good & solid. They display numerous small contusions, scrapes & scratches, along with a couple of large gouges to the forend. There is 3'' & 1'' tight stress cracks emanating from the upper tang at the wrist. The stocks carry the original darkened & aged finish, with an added layer of protective finishes. The right side of the stock displays two cartouches, which appear to be ''S9'' stampings. The metal blue finish has entirely tone to a dark brown patina, with areas of thinning worn to gun metal gray. Bore is very good, displaying areas of spotting & pitting amongst strong rifling. The barrel carries the original 1876 marked lip-up rear ladder sight & pinched blade front sight. Buttstock carries a smooth carbine metal buttplate. The stock carries a sling loop, while the forend carries a sling on the barrel band. The forend end cap carries the bayonet lug & holds a cleaning rod, which is concealed in the forend. The rifle comes complete with an original Winchester 1873/1876 Rifle Musket bayonet. This is a rare opportunity to purchase a complete example of one of the least produced Winchester lever variants. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 7000 to 12000
