J.M Marlin, Ballard Rifle, CAL: 22 HORNET, MFG: 1881-91, SN: 17934, Falling Block Rifle, 25 3/4'' Heavy octagon barrel. This is a custom built rifle utilizing a Marlin Ballard action. The custom cheeked straight grip wood stock & wide forend are excellent. There are a few minor scrapes & dings to the excellent finish. There are (4) additional screws on the bottom of the forend where a bracket was previously mounted for a palm or target rest. The metal blue finish has 90% coverage of a mix of blue & plum/brown patina. The barrel was fitted with a Parker Rifle barrel liner, ''PARKER RIFLE W.C.G'' stamped in a circle on the face of the muzzle. The lined bore is excellent. This modification was done in England. The upper tang has two open holes, while the barrel has been tapped & drilled with 5 open holes which likely once held sights & a scope mounts. There are two previous dovetails that have been filled, one on the bottom of the barrel 7'' from muzzle & one on the top 8'' from breech. There is also a front blank filled dovetail. Stock carries a steel swiss style buttplate. Double set trigger. An interesting customized target rifle which needs someone to finish the project with sights or optics & make it their own. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 400 to 1000
