Custom Rifle, Winchester, Model 70, CAL: 338-06, MFG: 1937 (Receiver), SN: 5438, Bolt Action Rifle, 24'' barrel. Early 2nd year of production receiver. The checkered & flat pistol grip wood stock, with schnabel forend tip, is very good & solid. Much of the checkering has worn smooth & there are contusions, scrapes & dings to the added layer of finish. The metal blue finish on the barrel rates 70%, with scrapes & spotting worn to metal grey. The rifle has the original barrel, with the Winchester barrel address & the marking ''Model 70-270 WIN'', but the barrel was re-bored & re-stamped on the left side with the current caliber,''338-06''. The receiver has worn mostly gun metal gray, with remnants of remaining blue amongst spotting & light cleaned pitting. Bore is excellent, with visible light wear from honest use. The receiver holds a Redfield scope base & has two open screw holes on the left side for a receiver sight. The barrel has an open rear dovetail & ramp elevated blade front sight. Reblued metal buttplate over cleaned pitting. Sling loops. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 300 to 600
