Savage, Model 69RXL Series E, CAL: 12 GA, MFG: 1983, SN: E216208, Pump Action Shotgun, 2 3/4'' or 3'', Cylinder Bore, 18 1/2'' No rib barrel. Early in the Vietnam War, the Stevens Arms Company received orders for military riot guns from the Department of Defense. The shotguns saw wide usage during U.S. involvement in Vietnam, especially among Military Police, though with infantry & other units as well. Some also went to the Vietnamese. Reportedly, 60,920 riot guns were delivered to the U.S. Armed Forces or allies beginning in 1963. Though originally intended primarily for the Vietnamese, the need for shotguns by U.S. troops resulted in thousands being issued to U.S. personnel. Widely used during the Vietnam War the involvement of Savage/Stevens shotguns is relatively unknown outside of U.S. military collectors. This later & updated 69RXL version was often used by law enforcement & by civilians as home security arms. The original flat pistol grip stock & ribbed forend are excellent, near mint. The military style metal gray finish has a green/brown toned patina & rates 90% coverage. Anodized trigger guard with a few nicks. Bore is excellent. The left side of the barrel is marked ''- SAVAGE MODEL 69RXL SERIES E - / 12 GA. 2 '' & 3'' SHELLS SAVAGE ARMS, WESTFIELD, MA. U.S.A.'' & proof/inspection marks on both the left side of the barrel & top of the barrel. The left side of the receiver is marked with the SN. The barrel holds an adjustable rear & front ramp blade sight, with a portion of the blade broken off. The top of the receiver is serrated to help reduce glare. Stock carries the original ventilated recoil pad. LOP 14'' over pad. Sling stud & swivels. An excellent home security or multi use shotgun. FFL Req. - Value: 300 to 600
