Colt, Model 1855 Sidehammer Pocket Revolver, (Model 6), CAL:31, MFG: 1864, SN: 8697, Single Action Percussion Revolver, 3 1/2'' barrel. This model is also known as also known as the Colt Root Revolver after engineer Elisha K. Root. The barrel is marked ''ADDRESS COL COLT NEW-YORK U.S.A'' in two lines. The full SN can been seen on the butt & on the cylinder. The cylinder scene engraved on the first 25,000 pistols was created by banknote engraver Waterman Ormsby. The image was his fourth & last to be featured on Colt revolvers. At one end of the scene is the text, ''COLT'S PATENT No. [8697]''. The original wood grips are very good & solid, having been refinished. There is a small edge chip repair on the left grip, alongside other contusions & light scrapes. The metal finish has worn to metal grey, with rust speckling, toned to a brown patina & remnants of blue in protected areas. Bore is very good & reflective, with intermittent pitting. Brass front sight. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 1000 to 2000
