Webley, Mark I, CAL: 455 Webley, MFG: 1887-94, SN: 6671, Single/Double Action Revolver, 4'' barrel. The MK I is the very first version of the iconic Webley Top-Break revolver series. This model was first produced in 1887 & continued production until 1894. It was then replaced with the Mark II, produced 1894-1897. The series continued with the Mark III from 1897-1899, the Mark IV from 1899-1913, the Mark V from 1913-1915, then finally the Webley Mark VI from 1915 to 1919. The original checkered plastic ''bird head'' grips are good, both with large edge chips, alongside minor dings & scrapes. The original metal blue finish rates 90%, with areas toned to a brown patina & edges worn to gun metal grey. Bore is very good, with consistent roughness. The barrel holds an elevated blade front sight. Lanyard loop present. Like many imported Webley Revolvers, this has had the cylinder shaved to accept .45ACP/.45 Auto Rim in half or full moon clips. This alteration was done to extend the lifespan when these were imported into the U.S.
PLEASE NOTE: .45ACP/Auto Rim modern cartridges are far more powerful than the .455 Webley. These modern cartridges were not designed for this revolver. We do not recommend that it be fired with .45ACP/Auto Rim cartridges. Use of modern .45 ammo in Webley revolvers has resulted in extensive damage or destroyed examples. This example is an early produced, original Webley Mark I, which are seldom seen on today's market. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 1000 to 2000
