WELLS FARGO, L.C Smith, Model 1894, CAL: 10 GA, MFG: 1894, 1st year production. SN: 50712, Break Action SxS Shotgun, 20'' twisted steel barrels (cut-down). This gun presents as a Wells Fargo stage coach gun. The right side of the stock displays a ''WELLS FARGO S.F CAL AGENT 23 EXPRESS 1895'' badge. The inventory/rack # ''85'' is branded on the right side of the stock & the base of the forend. The checkered round pistol grip wood stock & forend are good & solid, after a raw hide wrap over the pistol grip has stabilized multiple hairline fractures at the wrist. The stock has two inlayed dowels on the right side of stock. The forearm has been thinned on both sides of the forend tip The stock, & particularly the forend, show all the contusions, scrapes, nicks, dings & worn checkering consistent with use on the stage line. The stocks did receive some added finish at some point in their history. The metal finish has worn & toned to a mix of gun metal gray & brown patina. The solid, matted rib & barrel lug base is stamped ''W.F & Co''. Bores are good, but with dark roughness throughout. The solid rib holds a single front bead. Buttstock carries a L.C Smith checkered buttplate. The curl of the right hammer has been broken off. A pretty cool old double that likely has some stories to tell.
