Winchester Model 87 Winder Musket, CAL: marked 22 SHORT, MFG: 1919, SN: 133563, Lever Action Falling Block Single Shot Rifle, 28'' Round barrel. This is the third variation of the Winder musket built on the low wall frames of the 1885 rifles. The third variation was introduced in January 1918 & ended just two years later in June of 1920 with total production estimated at 13,000. This example is ''U.S.'' & Firebomb stamped behind the hammer & ahead of the upper tang. The original single barrel banded stocks are very good & solid, with most of the original finish remaining. There are numerous minor surface scratches, small contusions & scrapes. There is also 3 initials lightly scratched into the stock just above the lower tang on the right side of the wrist. The metal blue finish has thinned on the barrel to about 50%. The receiver finish has worn to a thin brown patina, with remains of original blue in more protected areas. The initials ''O.L.'' are scratched into the left side of the receiver. Bore is good, with some roughness amongst thinning rifling. The receiver holds a Lyman No. 53 adjustable windage/elevation peep sight, while the barrel carries a small blade front sight. Buttstock carries a smooth metal carbine style buttplate.
