RARE Winchester, Model 1893, 12 Ga., MFG. 1893, Antique, SN: 3006, Pump Action Shotgun, MOD choke, Chambered for 2 5/8'' ONLY, 32'' barrel. Early first year production. The Winchester Model 1893 Slide Action Shotgun was designed & patented by the Browning Brothers, & was the first market successful slide-action shotgun. It was introduced in May of 1893, & was manufactured until July of 1897. A fixed frame shotgun, it was made in 12 gauge only, with a 2-5/8'' chamber only, with 30'' & 32'' rolled steel Full choke barrels as standard. Production of the Model 1893 was relatively short lived due to the action proving itself to be too weak when smokeless ammunition was introduced in the mid 1890's. This design flaw was corrected with the introduction of the Winchester Model 1897 Slide Action Shotgun. The total production for the Model 1893 was just 34,176 guns & they are therefore relatively rare & highly sought after by collectors. The original rounded knob wood stocks are very good & solid. There are numerous small scratches, scrapes & contusions, with one larger 5'' scratch on the left side of stock. The stocks carry the original finish under and added coat of finish. The metal has an older reblue with about 80% coverage. There is older pitting, speckling & abrasions under the refinish. Bore is good. Pump action is tight. Single front bead. Original steel buttplate. Comes with a Cody Winchester Records Letter confirming configuration & dates. An early 1st year example of a fairly low production shotgun. 12 3/4'' LOP. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 400 to 800
