Description

POSSIBLE OHIO MILITIA CIVIL WAR RIFLE. LeMille (Liege Belgium), Model: French Model 1842 Copy, .69 Cal, MFG: 1850's-1860's, S/N: N/A, Percussion muzzleloader, 3 1/2'' rifled barrel. Consigner states that this rifle Is a OHIO marked Militia/ National Guard rifle. The straight wrist wood stock is very good as being lightly sanded & oiled. Top of wrist, behind upper tang, where the ''OHIO'' mark would be shows heavy rub wear from use to where the upper tang metal is proud to the wood. Very faint remnants of a marking on bottom of stock in front of trigger guard, this was a very common spot to put rack number on rifles. The metal is a even gun metal gray with black spotting, pitting & wear next to percussion nipple. Lock plate is marked '' LEMILLE'', ''A LIEGE'', left side of barrel, trigger guard/tang, lock plate, brass plate on left side of stock, & barrel bands all have Belgian proof marks. Bore is Good, has light pitting/roughness in spots with thinned rifling, but it's still in shooting condition. Barrel holds a blade font sight, & two rear sights. One is a flip up ladder U-notch rear sight, ladder is marked 4 to 1000, one is a fixed U-notch rear sight mounted on the tang. The sight on the tang is lower than the ladder sight & is unusable. The stock carries a steel buttplate with a Belgium proof mark on the upper tang. Bottom sling loops. Comes with a ram rod, & a Bayonet. Many rifles of this pattern from Belgium were imported to the states in the beginning of the civil war to arm Union troops & sates Militias. Also many of this exact pattern were marked OHIO making this highly likely to have been a Ohio Militia gun. Rifle is still in very good condition considering it being over 160 years old & looks to be safe to go shoot. Antique/Muzzleloader No FFL Req. - Value: 1000 to 2000
