Description

Springfield Armory. Model: 1903 Mark 1. Cal: 30-06. : MFG: 1920. S/N: 1152230. Bolt Action Rifle. 24'' Round Barrel. Only 29,000 of this model were ever made & were meant for use in conjunction with a experimental device called the Pedersen device, it was device made to shoot .30 caliber pistol rounds that would replace the bolt of the 1903 Springfield turning your rifle 5 shot rifle, into a 40 shot pistol caliber rifle, the cartridge was known to be underpowered & the war ended before they saw any frontline use, most of the Pederson devices were destroyed making them quite rare, & the rifles would just go back into inventory as standard line rifle. This rifle also has a 1943 replaced barrel with a Type C stock, the type C stock was deigned in 1929 initially for the national match rifles but was approved for use on service rifles in that same year and would be used once the supply of the older type S stock was exhausted, the type C differs from the type S in having a semi-pistol grip & no finger grooves. When they introduced the Type C stock they made a new model for the rifle, & any 1903 rifle that was made with a type C or had its stock replaced with a type C would be marked down as a M1903A1, unless it was the later 03-A3, technically making this rifle a M1903 mark I A1. The replaced Semi-pistol grip walnut stock is excellent, with very little to no wear, ''RA-P'' cartouche in left side of stock above trigger, RA stands for the Raritan Arsenal where they replaced the stock & barrel, ''S'' stamp on bottom of stock Infront of magazine. The Parkerized metal finish rates 90% overall, the parkerized finish is not original but was likely done when it was re-arsenaled. Front top of receiver is marked, ''U.S.'', ''SPRINGFIELD ARMORY'', ''MODEL 1903 MARK I'', S/N, Top end of barrel is marked, ''H S'', flaming bomb, ''10-41'', The H S is a High Standard MFG Co barrel, rear barrel band is marked ''U''. Bore is excellent, bright & shiny with strong rifling. Blade front sight with a windage & elevation adjustable U notch ladder rear sight, marked 4 to 27 on top. Metal Butt plate, with trapdoor. Bottom sling swivels & stacking swivel. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 1000 to 2000
