J.P. Sauer, Model: K98K, Cal: 7.92x57mm, MFG: 1941, S/N: 8705M, Bolt Action rifle, 23 3/4'' barrel. The semi-pistol laminated wood stock is very good, stock is a after war French modified one with a left side sling bar for use with the French slings, stock has been sanded & a high gloss finish has been added, stock has a firing pin disassembly disc through rear of stock. The metal finish rates 50% on the receiver & 85% on the barrel with most thinning on common hand/wear spots, this finish was likely redone by the French when they re-arsenaled this rifle after the war as the original German finish's were notorious for being easily worn off from just common use. Left side of receiver is marked with a Waffenamt proof mark, S/N, & ''Mod.98'', top of receiver is marked a script ''ce'' & ''41'', right side of receiver is marked with German proofs, left side of barrel is marked with a Waffenamt proof mark & S/N, top of barrel is marked ''S5179541DS'', S/N matched bolt & all its components, trigger guard/magazine, butt plate & both barrel bands, S/N mismatched rear sight. Bore is very good, bright with roughness throughout. Barrel holds a barleycorn front sight with a tangent V-notch rear sight marked 1 to 20 on ladder. Stock carries a steel cupped butt plate with wear & rust speckling. Side sling loop/bar/well. Missing cleaning rod. This rifle was refurbished & used by the French after the war evident by the modified stock to use French slings, it was used either in their military or more likely by police forces.
