SPECIAL ORDER Winchester, Model 1886, (MATTED BARREL), CAL: 40-82 WCF, MFG: 1918, SN: 156140, Lever Action Rifle, 26'' Half octagon/half round barrel, Full mag. A special order rifle, with unique features. The orignal straight grip stocks are very good. The stock has been lightly sanded & nicely refinished, with a couple of minor spot with filler & a small toe chip that has also been filled. The original forend carries the original finish, with several minor contusions or scratches. The barrel is a special order having a rare full length matted top on the 1/2 octagon 1/2 round barrel. According to a 2007 WACA article on the subject, Winchester records indicate only 206 matted barrel 1886 rifles were produced in all calibers. The high luster metal blue finish on the barrel & mag has been nicely restored & rates 98%, with some light speckling under blue. The receiver, lever, hammer & forend cap are worn mostly gun metal gray, with a thin layer of brown patina. The sliding bolt retains a 85% of its original bright blue. Fitted with a special order two leaf folding rear sight & a small blade front sight. Bore is excellent. Ordered with a Winchester hard rubber, widow's peak, shotgun buttplate. Comes with a Cody Winchester Factory Records Letter, which simply confirms no records for this rifle are available. This rare special order rifle, with a very nice overall appearance.
