Ball & Williams, Ballard Rifle, CAL: 44 RF, MFG: 1862-65, SN: 11877, Lever Action Falling Block Rifle, 22'' barrel. The straight grip wood stocks are good & solid, displaying contusions, scrapes & dings. The wood has minor edge chipping, a 3'' hairline at the wrist & a 3'' grain crack in the forend. The metal has rust brown patina, with pitting & some surface rust throughout. The left side of the receiver is marked ''BALL & WILLIAMS / WORCESTER MASS'' & ''MERWIN & BRAY. AGT / NEW YORK '', but only fragments of the markings remain. The right side of the receiver is marked ''BALLARD'S PATENT / NOV. 5 1861'' & is readable, but also faint. Barrel carries the original flip-over two leaf rear sight & small blade front sight. Bore is very good, displaying a light roughness, amongst proud rifling. Stock carries a metal buttplate & sling loops. A fairly rare & early Civil War era carbine. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 600 to 1200
