CASED, Merkel, Model 147SL, CAL: 28 GA, MFG: Modern, SN: 480165, Break Action SxS Shotgun, 26 3/4'' barrels. The finely hand checkered straight grip wood stocks are excellent, near mint, with full finish & fabulous grain pattern. The coin silver receiver is excellent. The metal blue finish on the barrels, break lever & trigger guard rates 99%. As a testament to Merkel's devotion to the gun-making art, even today all of the engravings are done entirely by hand. The receiver has been fully & exquisitely hand engraved by Olaf Weiss, as signed in a banner, ''O. Weiss'' on the bottom of the left sideplate. The right side plate displays an intricate engraving of a dog & pheasant game scene, while the right side plate displays a hawk & mallard game scene. The scenes are accompanied by crisp ornamental scroll engraving that covers most of the floor plate, trigger guard, tang & on or around the screws. Bores are excellent, near mint. The solid rib holds a single brass bead. Buttstock carries a Merkel buttplate. Comes in original Merkel case, with leather accents. The case also includes Merkel snap caps, silver oil container, bore snake & case key. The external cover of the case is sun faded, while the inside appears new. Merkel guns are truly custom, hand-made & master-engraved firearms. They are made to customers' specific orders.
