Winchester, Model 1885 High Wall Rifle, .40-90 SS Cal., MFG: 1892, SN: 56268, Lever Single Shot Rifle, 32'' Full octagon #4 marked barrel, The original straight grip wood stocks are very good & solid. There appears to be a small peg at the right side of the wrist, but there does not appear to be any cracks or breaks through to the exterior of the stock to necessitate the peg. There are several small handling marks, scratches & contusions to the stock. The original finish is very good, with some thinning & staining, with an added layer of finish or oiles. There is a 1'' crack next to the left side tip of the forend above the ebony inlay. The original metal blue finish on barrel is toning a bit plum as it thins, with approximately 60% coverage. The case-hardened receiver lever, block & hammer are mostly gun metal gray, with a spotty brown patina. Bore is very good. The receiver carries a Lyman flip-up tang sight, while the barrel carries an adjustable rear & a Rocky Mountain blade front sights. The stock carries a crescent metal buttplate. The barrel is stamped with a ''4'' forward of the forearm. The barrel is stamped with the the caliber ''40-90 SS'' under the forend & on top of the barrel which is also proceeded by the initials ''HM''. This is a wonderful original condition heavy barreled high wall rifle, in a rarer caliber. Antique No FFL Req. - Value: 1000 to 2000
