US, Model: M1917 Enfield Sporter, Cal: .303 British, MFG: 1917-18, S/N: 258495, Bolt action rifle, 22 1/4'' barrel. The original semi-pistol grip wood stock is very good as being cut down & shaped. Stock has dark stains & a few scuffs/scratches. the left side of the stock is marked with a faint ''S.S.A.A.'' in box cartouche. The bottom of the wrist is marked with a ''P'' in square firing proof. The upper tang channel at the heel of the stock has a wood fill. Recoil lug has been replaced with modern hardware. The metal has a old re-blue that rates 80% overall with spots of wear & areas toning to a brown patina. The receiver has spots of cleaned pitting. The markings on the top & left side of the receiver are faint from buffing/cleaning. The left side of the chamber is marked ''303B'' under a small. faint British arrow proof. The right end of the barrel is marked with P14 import markings. The end of the barrel has been threaded. Remington marked bolt. Bolt release lever has been replaced. Safety has been removed. Bolt has been converted to cock on open. Replaced magazine floorplate. Magazine internals have been replaced with a block of wood acting like a loading tray, converting the rifle to single shot. The bore is good. Its bright with roughness. No iron sights. Rifle has mounted a Weaver K 2.5 power scope, has a thick single post reticle. The stock carries a rubber recoil pad. The rear sling swivel has been removed. This is a ''Gunsmith Special'' gun made from many different parts. The bolt has been converted to shoot the rimmed .303 British cartridge, from the rimless .30-06, & as such should be checked by a licensed gunsmith before firing.
