Browning, Model A-5 AMERICAN BROWNING, CAL: 12 GA, MFG: 1940-46, SN: B172148, Semi-Auto Shotgun, Chamber 2 3/4'', Choke: FULL, 30'' Matted barrel. This is a Remington produced Browning A5, made under contract by Remington during the WWII years when production at the Belgium FN plant was not available. They were produced along side the Remington Model 11, but unlike the Model 11, the Remington produced Browning A5 guns had magazine cuttoffs & a stippled matte finish along the top portion of the receiver. The American Browning was made in 12, 16, & 20 gauge. Approximately 45,000 were made, in total, all gauges, making them fairly rare & collectible in high surviving condition. It is likely it wasn't in actual production for more than two years, but was marketed through 1946. Regaurding this example, the original hand checkered & round pistol grip wood stocks are excellent, with a few minor to small contusions or scrapes to the original finish. Checkering remains crisp. The factory metal blue finish rates 99% overall. Bore is excellent, virtually mint. The matted barrel carries a single front raised bead. Buttstock carries an original Browning buttplate, with a small edge chip at the toe. LOP: 14 1/4''. Truly, an all original example, in high collector grade condition. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 1000 to 1500
