H.E. Leman, Frontier Rifle, CAL: .52, MFG: 1840's, SN: NONE, Percussion Muzzleloader, 38 1/2'' barrel. Leman made thousands of guns between 1834-1887, with few of this quality survived. Leman mostly made lesser quality firearms for the Indian trade. It is estimated that Leman made more than 100,000 percussion rifles. The lock plate is marked ''LEMAN/LANCTR P.A''. The top barrel flat is marked ''LEMAN LANCASTER P.A'' & ''WARRANTED''. The original half-stock straight grip rifle is good. There are a couple small grain cracks, alongside numerous nicks, dings, scratches & scrapes. The stock has darkened from protective oils added over time. The finish on the barrel rates 75%, toned to a brown patina with edges & handling points worn to metal gray. The side plate & hammer have also toned to a brown patina. Brass hardware has an aged patina. Bore is poor, dark & rough. Buckhorn rear sight & blade front sight. Stock has a crescent metal buttplate. Double set triggers. After the Custer defeat, the Army gathered as many guns as possible from the Sioux & Cheyenne, of the 160 muzzleloaders they gathered, 92 of them were by Leman. Black powder, No FFL Req. - Value: 600 to 2000
