The rear of the barrel is marked ''V'' over ''P'' over a eagles head, ''1864''. The lock plate is marked ''1864'', American great eagle, ''U.S.'', ''SPRINGFIELD''. The nipple housing is marked with another American great eagle. The upper extension of the buttplate is marked ''US''. All three barrel bands marked ''U''. the last 3/4'' of the barrel has been ''lapped'' down. The bore is very good. its bright & shiny with no visible roughness, thinned rifling. Has four groove rifling. The barrel holds a small barleycorn front sight with a flip up, U-notch/aperture rear sight. The stock carries a steel buttplate.
