Description

Springfield Armory, Model: M1 Garand, Cal: .30-06, MFG: 1943, S/N: 1439766, Semi-auto rifle, 24'' barrel. The semi-pistol grip walnut stock is very good as being lightly sanded & re-finished. Stock has some nicks, dings, & scratches. stock has a arsenal break repair on the bottom forend, just in front of the magazine, has two tight cracks along the bottom & two metal rod reinforcements on the right side of the stock. Both sides of the stock, above the trigger has a small wood fill repair. Cartouches on stock are faded from the sanding & re-finished. The bottom of the wrist has the ''P'' in circle firing proof. The left side of the stock, just behind the trigger, is marked ''S.A'' over ''FME'' in a box, this is the inspector stamp for Col. Francis M. Eckford, the commanding officer of Springfield Armory at the time. Just to the right of that is the crossed cannons US acceptance stamp. The metal has an arsenal re-finish with spots of roughness under the finish. The parkerized finish rates 93% overall with spots of scratches & wear. The rear of the receiver is marked ''U.S. RIFLE'', ''CAL. .30 M1'', ''SPRINGFIELD'', ''ARMORY'', & the S/N. The top of the bolt has part numbers & a diamond stamp. Op-rod handle is marked ''J''. The right side of the barrel, under the op-rod is marked ''M'', ''W'', ''3-S-A-3-43''. The bore is very good. Its bright & shiny with spots of roughness. The barrel holds a square post front sight with protective wings. Rear of receiver holds a fully adjustable, aperture rear sight with a locking bar. The stock carried a checkered, parkerized steel trap door buttplate. Trap door has two grease bottles inside, one stuck in stock. Rifle has both bottom sling loops with the third stacking swivel.
