Inland Division, Model: M1 Carbine, Cal: .30 Carbine, MFG: July-Aug 1943, S/N: 450398, Semi-auto rifle, 18'' barrel.
HISTORY: Inland manufacturing was a division of General Motors that was tooled up to make M1 carbines during WW2. They would make over 2.6 million M1 carbines throughout the war, about 43% of total production. They were also the only company to make M1A1 Paratrooper carbines.
CONDITION: the semi-pistol grip walnut stock is excellent. Type 3 stock. The right cheek has a crisp crossed cannon US acceptance cartouche. The sling well is stamped with the MFG mark ''IO'' for the S.E. Overton company of South Haven Michigan. Their prime contractor was Inland. The parkerized metal finish rates 98% with minor wear. The front receiver band is marked ''U.S. CARBINE'', ''CAL .30 M1''. The rear of the receiver is marked ''INLAND DIV'' & the S/N. The top end of the barrel is marked ''INLAND MFG DIV.'', ''GENERAL MOTORS'', ''5-43''. The barrel band is marked ''M M Q''. The rear sight is marked ''J.R. Co.'', mag release marked ''M'' & ''WA'', & the front sight is marked ''U''. This rifle has the 3rd style barrel band with bayo-lug, updated 15 & 30 Rd mag release, updated rotary safety, & updated adjustable rear sight. The bore is excellent. Its bright & mirrorlike with a couple spots of light roughness. The stock carries a checkered, parkerized steel buttplate, has a spot of patina. The rifle has the front, left side mounted sling loop, & a sling well for use of a oiler bottle for the rear sling mount. has oiler bottle & period correct green canvas sling. comes with one 15 rd. mag.
