Inland Division, Model: M1 Carbine, Cal: .30 Carbine, MFG: Aug-Nov 1944, S/N: 6360108, Semi-auto rifle, 18'' barrel.
HISTORY: Inland manufacturing was a division of General Motors that was tooled up to make M1 carbines during WW2. They would make over 2.6 million M1 carbines throughout the war, about 43% of total production. They were also the only company to make M1A1 Paratrooper carbines.
CONDITION: the semi-pistol grip walnut stock is very good with some nicks, dings, scuffs & scratches from use/age. Type 3 stock. The right cheek has a half worn crossed cannon US acceptance cartouche. The sling well is stamped with the MFG mark ''IO'' for the S.E. Overton company of South Haven Michigan. Their prime contractor was Inland. The parkerized metal finish rates 93% with some spots of wear & light scratches. The front receiver band is marked ''U.S. CARBINE'', ''CAL .30 M1''. The rear of the receiver is marked ''INLAND DIV'' & the S/N. The top end of the barrel is marked ''INLAND MFG DIV.'', ''GENERAL MOTORS'', ''3-44''. The barrel band has a worn triangle stamp. The rear sight is marked ''PI'', mag release marked ''M'' & ''SI'', & the front sight is marked ''N''. This rifle has the 2nd style barrel band, updated 15 & 30 Rd mag release, older push button safety, updated adjustable rear sight, & no bayonet lug. The bore is very good. Its bright with spots of concentrated roughness. The stock carries a checkered, parkerized steel buttplate. rifle has the front, left side mounted sling loop, & a sling well for use of a oiler bottle for the rear sling mount. comes with one 15 rd. mag, has rust & patina.
