Amberg Arsenal, Model: Gewehr 98, Cal: 7.92x57mm (8mm Mauser), MFG: 1916, S/N: 6539 (serial block n), Bolt action rifle, 22'' barrel. The semi-pistol grip wood stock is very good as being cut down, shaped, sanded & re-finished. There is a duffle cut repair just in front of the magazine, repair is solid. There is a resin plug fill on the buttstock & on the bottom of the forend. there are the faint remains of the outlines of a couple cartouches on the belly of the stock & bottom of the wrist. The metal has been re-blued & rates 80% with spots of thinning & light patina. The left side of the receiver is marked ''GEW.98'' in German script. The left side of the receiver band is marked with the S/N & a lion proof. The top of the receiver band is marked with a crown over ''AMBERG'', ''1916''. The barrel is marked with a few small proofs & misc. part/assembly numbers. S/N mismatched bolt, trigger guard & magazine floorplate. All bolt components S/N match. Bolt appears to be from a K98k with Waffenamt proof marks & having a bent bolt handle. The bore is good. its bright with roughness. The barrel holds a aftermarket beaded blade front sight marked ''PACIFIC''. Rear sight is a receiver mounted Aperture rear sight marked ''REDFIELD''. Both sight bases have light speckled surface rust. The stock carried a ''AIROGEL'' rubber recoil pad. The rear sling mount is original with a added front swivel to the forend. Rifle comes with leather sling. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 200 to 400
