Waffenfabrik Mauser Oberndorf (byf code), Model: K98k Russian Captured, Cal: 7.92x57mm (8mm Mauser), MFG: 1941, 4294 (b serial block), bolt action rifle, 24'' barrel. The semi-pistol grip wood stock is very good with various nicks, dings, & scratches from use/age. S/N stamped into the left cheek of stock. Firing pin disassembly disc in buttstock. The metal was re-blued when it was re-furbished by the Russians. The finish retains almost full coverage with spots of thinning & scratches on the receiver & muzzle end of barrel. There a few spots of roughness/ cleaned light pitting throughout. Overall finish rates 87%. The left side of the receiver is marked ''Mod.98''. the left side of the receiver band is marked with a iron eagle & the S/N. the top of the receiver band is marked ''byf'', a faded ''X'' (the Russian capture mark), ''41''. The right side is marked with three Waffenamt proof stamps. The rear of the barrel where it meets with the barrel is marked ''D'' on the left side & ''73'' on the top. The left side of the barrel is marked with a iron eagle & the S/N. the top of the barrel is marked ''40 Do3 3''. The bottom end of the barrel is stamped with import marks. The right side of the rear sight base is stamped with two Waffenamt proof marks. S/N is electro penciled on the bolt body. Many smaller metal parts marked with Waffenamt proofs. S/N marked parts are all mismatched (common on Russian captures). The Iron eagles have had the swastika peened out; this was common on Russian capture guns to deface the nazi marks (the swastika on the receiver is still slightly visible). The bore is good. its bright with strong rifling but has roughness in the grooves. The barrel holds a hooded barleycorn front sight with a grooved base. The rear sight is a tangent V-notch rear sight marked 1 to 20. The stock carries a cupped steel buttplate that was left in the white. Rifle is missing the cleaning. standard K98k style left side sling mounts. Most Russian capture K98ks were quite crudely refurbished with stock varnish all over the rifle & markings being mostly buffed away. This Russian capture is in better condition than most out there.* FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 1000 to 2000
