Tokyo Artillery Arsenal, Model: Type 38, Cal: 6.5x50mmSR, MFG: 1906-23, S/N: 986144, Bolt action rifle, 31 1/4'' barrel. The semi-pistol grip Japanese Walnut stock is good. Has various nicks, dings, gouges, vice marks, & scratches from use/age. Japanese style two-piece buttstock. Right side of stock has spots of white paint. Glue has been added to the left side of the joint between the two-piece buttstock. The upper handguard has a couple small cracks & grain pops. The blued metal finish on the receiver rates 75% with spots of thinning & brown patina. The blued metal finish on the barrel rates 80% with wear/thinning at the muzzle & spots of brown patina. Left side of the receiver is marked with the S/N, Tokyo Arsenal logo, & two small inspector stamps. The top of the receiver band is marked with a fully intact chrysanthemum, & ''TYPE 38'' in Japanese. The rear receiver bridge is marked with a small triangle in circle stamp & a small circle stamp. The left side of the barrel is marked with a small triangle in circle stamp, & ''S''. S/N mismatched bolt & marked parts. The bore is very good. Has strong rifling with roughness. The barrel holds a barleycorn front sight with a flip up ladder, V-notch rear sight marked 5 to 24. The stock carries a blued steel buttplate with worn finish around the edges. Rifle has a cleaning rod & both bottom sling loops. Rifle comes US Vietnam era green canvas carry strap that was converted into a sling. a nice example of a non ground Mum Arisaka.
