St. Etienne, French Model 1822 Navy Pistol, CAL: 18mm/71cal, MFG: 1830, SN: 17-6A, Percussion Single Shot, 7'' barrel.
HISTORY: This pistol was originally produced as a flintlock in 1822 & converted to percussion in 1830. The right lock plate has a fill where the pan used to be & the touch hole is filled.
MARKINGS: Right lock plate: faintly marked '' MRE. IMP. DE ST. ETIENNE'', ''STAR/M'' in oval, & non-legible proof ''S?''. Right side of barrel: ''1830'', ''C''?, & ''19'' on right barrel flat. Top of barrel: ''CROWN/R''?, ''M'', ''?'', ''?'', ''Cde 17-6A''. Top tang: ''1822'' ''L'', ''B1S''. Multiple proofs on the brass hardware (see photos). Butt: ''ANCHOR''. Lower strap: multiple proofs. Stock: multiple ''E'' proofs & ''L'' proof & ''19''. Photos will show all markings.
CONDITION: The original wood stock is good having had multiple repairs & being refinished. There are numerous dings & scrapes. The barrel, side plate, hammer, backstrap & belt hook are all metal gray, with spotting toned to a thin brown patina. The rifled bore is very good. Fixed rear sight & round beaded front sight.
