Winchester, Model 53, marked 44 WCF, MFG: 1930, SN: 993054, Lever Action Rifle, 22'' Tapered round Nickel Steel barrel, Button mag. In 1924, Winchester introduced the Model 53 lever-action rifle as a modern version of the model 1892. Production lasted just 8 yrs until 1932, with limited production of approximately 15,000+. They were initially serialized separately, but in 1926-27 they were serialized with the 92 rifles that were still being assembled from remaining parts & later with the next generation model 65 rifles that came along in 1933. The original wood stocks are excellent, with minor scratches & handling marks to the original finish, which shows areas of thinning & flaking. The original factory blue rates 85% on barrel, with just 30% remaining on the receiver due to thinning or what most collectors refer to as typical Winchester flaking from this era. Bore is excellent. Barrel fitted with factory adjustable rear sight & Lyman low profile blade front sight. The stock carries a serrated metal shotgun style buttplate. Eyelet style sling provisions & comes with a period leather sling on Winchester hook swivels. Tight smooth action. A very nice original condition rifle & always highly collectible as a low production rifle. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 2500 to 3500
