J. M. Marlin, Model Ballard #5 Modified Pacific Sporting Rifle, CAL: 40-63 CF, MFG: 1885, SN:11049, Single Shot Falling Block Rifle, 30'' Octagon barrel. The original straight grip wood stocks are good & solid, having a few crack repairs & a bit of fill added to the stock. The stock & forend appear to carry the original thinned finish, with several minor to small scrapes, scratches & contusions. The metal finish has worn mostly gun metal gray, with spotty areas of brown patina. The bore is good, but with areas of roughness amongst strong rifling. The rifle is fitted with a flip-up, screw height adjusting aperture tang sight, while the barrel carries the original adjustable rear sight & a rare bone blade front sight, which is partially missing. The bolt on the rifle has been changed & currently holds a single trigger. Stock carries the original crescent metal buttplate. 3 line address stamped on left side of receiver. Ramrod held with dovetailed fixtures & forend, which has a replaced retention screw on the right & no screw on the left. A good looking antique Marlin Ballard rifle. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 1000 to 2000
