J. Stevens & Co., Model No. 1 Tip-Up Rifle, Cal: 32 RF, MFG: 1884-86, SN:12226, Single shot, tip open, 24'' Octagon to round barrel, The original straight grip wood stock is excellent, with several light scratches, scrapes & dings to the original finish. There is a 2'' crack emanating from the end of the upper tang. This model produced without a forend. Left side of barrel is marked ''J. STEVENS & CO. CHICOPEE FALLS.MASS. PAT.SEPT.6.1864''. The metal blue finish to the barrel rates 40%, toning to a brown patina as it thins. The majority of the nickel finish on the receiver has worn away with remnants in the most protected areas & the majority of the metal worn gun metal gray, with a thin brown patina. Spur trigger guard. The receiver is fitted with a large sliding disk flip-up Vernier tang sight, while the barrel carries a fixed rear & folding globe front sight. Bore is good, with areas of pitting & roughness amongst strong rifling. Stock carries a crescent metal buttplate, retaining some original nickel. This is a nice looking representative example of the early Stevens tip-up rifle. Antique, No FFL Req - Value: 500 to 800
