Winchester, Model 70 Super Grade ''African Model'', marked 458 WIN. MAGNUM, MFG. 1967, SN: 859715, Bolt Action Rifle, 21 3/4'' Round barrel, The Winchester Model 70 in .458 Winchester Magnum, often referred to as the ''African Model,'' was a popular rifle for dangerous game hunting in Africa. This powerful cartridge is known for its ability to deliver a heavy bullet at a high velocity, making it effective for taking down large, thick-skinned game like elephant, buffalo, & rhino. They gained prominence during the mid-20th century, particularly after the decline of British ammunition companies, filling the gap for a powerful, readily available cartridge for dangerous game hunting. The original cheeked, checkered & metal capped pistol grip, Monte Carlo style walnut stock is excellent, with ebony tipped forend. There are minor scratches, scrapes & contusions to the original finish. The metal blue finish rates 98% on barrel & receiver, with the floorplate toning plum. Bore is excellent & bright. Stock carries a Winchester factory ventilated recoil pad. Factory sling provisions. This beautiful African Super Grade is excellent & a highly collectible example. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 1200 to 2500
