Remington, Model 8 Semi-Deluxe, 30 REM CAL, MFG. 1915, SN: 35818, Semi-Auto Rifle, 22'' barrel. The original round knob pistol grip wood stocks are very good & solid. The hand checkering on the forend has worn thin & smoothed many of the lines, but about half the lines remain visible. The stock has been sanded & reoiled, with the wear & sanding having removed the checkering if it was present previously. The inside of the forend is not stamped with a ''3'' or ''C'' for grade confirmation, which in this case leads to the assumption that this is a special order ''A'' grade that was factory upgraded with checkering, costing the customer an additional $5 at the time of ordering. Sometimes collectors refer to these ''A'' grade rifles with factory checkering as deluxe or semi-deluxe rifles. This rifle does displays a bit of wave to the grain & does carry 20 lines per inch checkering with borders. The original finish on the forend has worn away & has been reoiled, which has darkened the wood. There are several minor scrapes, scratches & contusions to the stocks. The original metal blue finish remains at 60% overall, with loss due to wear & density thinning developing a thin brown patina. The receiver carries a Lyman tang sight, while the barrel has filler screws in the rear sight provisions & a standard front blade sight. Bore is very good, with strong rifling. The left side of the barrel carries not only the manufacture date stampings, but a repair codes from where the rifle was returned to the factory for unknown repair or upgrade. These repair stampings typically are a 3 or 4 digit code ending in ''3'', in this case ''BT3''. Stock carries one of the rarest of the buttplate options, the checkered reverse teardrop Remington UMC metal buttplate. 5 rd fixed magazine. Period sling loops in the stock & forend. Smooth tight action. A rarer checkered rifle that has seen some time in the woods, but remains a good example of a special ordered hunting rifle. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 600 to 1000
