W.W. Greener, EG Mark III Police Gun, Cal: 14 Ga Police cartridge, MFG: 1930's-40's, S/N: 31498, Lever action single shot shotgun, 26'' barrel.

HISTORY: The Greener police gun, also marked ''EG'' (Egyptian Gun), was a modified martini action shotgun made to meet the demand for a police weapon & riot control gun. First made in 1922 & Produced in large quantities after the company won a contract to supply these weapons to the Egyptian police force. Both sporting & police models were made until 1998 when production ceased. Three marks of the police guns were made, the mark 3 here used a special designed cartridge. With the rampant corruption in Egypt at the time, criminals would pay off police to borrow their guns to commit crimes. In order to stop this, the mark III was designed to use a special cartridge that had three striker projections, only the police were supplied with the ammo & regular ammunition would not work.

CONDITION: The two-piece straight wrist wood stock is good with various small nicks, dings, dents, & scratches from use/age. The forend has darkened from added oils over time & the buttstock appears to have been lightly sanded/cleaned & is lighter. The barrel has toned to a mix of brown patina & gun metal gray with small vise marks & toll dings across the barrel & a group of concentrated tool dings at the top of the chamber. The receiver has toned to a even chocolate brown patina with rust speckling. There is rust/light pitting along the stock line of the barrel & receiver. Left side of the receiver is marked ''W.W. GREENER MAKER'' over ''PATENT No.463628/35'', top left edge is marked with a crown over ''BV'' proof, & the bottom left edge is stamped ''14GA.'', ''ENGLAND'', ''SARCO STIRLG'', ''NU''. The right side of the receiver is marked ''EG'' over ''MARK III'', marking is thinned from wear. Arabic markings at the top of the receiver, to the right of the rear sight grove. The left side of the barrel is marked with British proof stamps, nitro proofs, & Arabic markings. The top of the chamber is marked ''GREENER'' over ''MARK III'' slightly hidden with tool marks. Right side of the chamber marked with S/N. ''EG'' is stamped on trigger guard & lever. These greener shotguns featured a safety right next to the cocking indicator that automatically puts the gun on safe when the action is closed. The bore is good almost very good. It's bright & shiny with light striation firing wear, but has some spots of light pitting near the muzzle. The barrel holds a bead front sight with a rear notch cut into the front of the receiver. The stock carries a brass trapdoor buttplate, nothing inside trapdoor. Has both sling loops. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 400 to 600
