Abram Renick, Independence MO, Missouri Long Rifle, Cal: .46, MFG: 1843-61, Percussion rifle, 43'' octagon barrel.
HISTORY: Abram Renick was a well know gunsmith in Independence, Jackson County Missouri that supplied Oregon trail travelers with rifles. He was born in Bourbon Cp. Kentucky on June 6th, 1814 on a farm. He began gunsmithing at some point & eventually he would move to Independence in Jackson County Missouri in 1843 & opened a gunsmithing business. He would move to a farm near Independence around 1861 but continued his gunsmithing business until 1881 when he died. This rifle comes from the famous Mike Carrick collection & comes with a bunch of his research information on Abram Renick & other rifles/ bullet molds that he made.
CONDITION: The straight wrist, wood full stock is good. There are many repaired & un-repaired cracks along all sides of the forend. spots on stock darked from added oils over time. There is small chips in edges of wood around the heel. The metal has mostly toned to a even chocolate brown patina with gun metal gray showing on the lock & makers mark on the barrel. Tool dings & nick marks along edges of barrel & roughness around the percussion nipple. percussion cap cup on the hammer is thin & has some chipping from rust wear. Top of the barrel is marked ''A RENICK'' with decorative engraving on both sides of mark. The lock plate is marked ''R'' over ''ASHMORE'' over ''WARRANTED''. The lock plate & hammer have decorative engraving. The lower extension of the buttplate is decoratively styled. The bore is Good. its bright with strong rifling but has some roughness & spots of light pitting. The barrel holds a blade front sight with a small V-notch rear. The stock carries a brass buttplate, has some dark patina. The rifle has no sling mounts. Has a wooden ramrod. Double set triggers. Hammer does not lock into full-cock unless the rear set trigger is ''set''. Action is smooth & functions with no binding. Antique/Muzzleloader, No FFL Req - Value: 1000 to 3000
