Brass Frame Rolling block Musketoon, unmarked MFG, Cal: .54 (will almost chamber a 28 Ga shell, chamber is just barely too short), MFG: 1860s-90s, S/N: None, Single shot breech loading rifle, 27 1/2'' cut down musket barrel.
CONDITION: The two-piece straight wrist wood stock is very good with minor nicks, dings, dents, & scratches from use/wear. Stock has added finish/oil. The rear barrel band spring has a professional wood fill in the cutout of the stock. The barrel has mostly toned to a mix of brown patina & gun metal gray, there is some thinned remains of blue on the barrel under the forend, spots of roughness/pitting along the stock line on the barrel. The brass receiver, shiny with very light patina, has various nick & ding marks. The Front of the receiver, where the forend slips into the frame, has three ''X'' marks, four Punch marks & a couple other tool marks, forend well also has some brass corrosion. The hammer & breech block have roughness/cleaned pitting. The bottom of the barrel, under the forend is stamped ''P''. rear barrel band marked ''U'', the front is marked ''B''. the Breech block is missing a screw. There is a crack through metal of the chamber. Barrel is loose, has play back & forth & wants to unscrew. Extractor does not appear correct for the rifle. The bore is fair. Its dark with rust & light roughness but has no deep pitting. Bore is smooth with no visible trace of rifling. The barrel holds a Mauser style Barleycorn front sight with grooved base, with a U-notch flip up ladder sight marked 5 to 8. Rear sight too low to use without flipping up ladder. The buttstock carries a steel buttplate, speckled with patina & has stock lacquer over it. Rifle has both bottom sling loops & a cleaning/clearing rod, appear to be a cut down musket ramrod. Brass hang tang around the trigger guard marked ''112''. Rifle appears to mechanically function fine, notches on hammer feel worn but still catch. An Interesting brass frame Rolling block made with what looks like a cutdown musket barrel. Antique, No FFL Req - Value: 200 to 800
