CONDITION: The two piece, semi-pistol grip wood stock is very good with various nicks, dings, dents, & scratches from use/age. The stock was lightly sanded & re-finished at some point, likely when it was getting ready for sale on the surplus market. Buttstock & forend do not match each other. Arsenal heel repair on buttstock with two wooden dowel reinforcement. 1 '' missing chunk of the upper handguard, by the rear sight. The right cheek has a unmarked brass unit disc embedded into it, as well as stamped ''F R'' for factory refurbishment. ''L'' stamped into belly of buttstock. Bottom of the forend, just in front of the magazine is stamped ''CG'', the ''C'' is half faded. The bottom it end of the forend is marked with a worn, incorrect S/N. The metal carries a arsenal re-finish with spots of roughness/cleaned pitting under the finish. The blued metal finish rates 90% overall with spots of thinning, scratches, brown patina. The safety & magazine are finished with black Suncorite paint & not blued. The rear of the receiver is marked ''R'' & ''37'', markings are faded. Right side of the receiver band is marked with a crown over ''G.R.I.'', ''ISHAPORE'', ''1939'', ''SHTLE'', ''III''. The receiver band is marked with two proofs & the S/N. magazine is marked ''D.P.'' for drill purpose, taken off a Drill rifle when it was refurbished. More small proof marks on other metal parts. S/N matching bolt, S/N mismatched magazine, stock & forend cap. Some old grease in action & magazine. The bore is excellent. Bright & mirrorlike with little visible wear, but has some roughness throughout the bore & more concentrated roughness near the muzzle. The barrel holds a square post front sight with protective ears, & a tangent U-notch marked 2 to 20. The stock carries a brass trapdoor buttplate that has dings & wear. Nothing inside trapdoor. The rifle both bottom sling loops. A nice example of a pre WW2, India Made Lee-Enfield. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 300 to 800
