Rifle Factory Ishapore-Inda (RFI), No.1 Mk.3 star SMLE, Cal: .303 British, MFG: 1955, S/N: 78768, Bolt action rifle, 25'' barrel.
CONDITION: The two piece, semi-pistol grip walnut stock is very good as being very lightly sanded & refinished done when it refurbished was sold on the surplus market. Dark oil-stained stock, common for Inda SMLEs. Stock has a couple small nicks, dings & scratches from use. The right cheek of the stock is marked with a faded S arrow A presumed to mean Small Arms for the Republic of Inda. Bottom of thew wrist has a faded 4 stamp. The bottom of the forend is marked with the S/N. The metal carries a arsenal re-finish. The blued metal finish rates 85% overall with spots of thinning, scratches, brown patina, light speckled rust. The striker is finished with back Suncorite paint & not blued. The rear of the receiver is marked ''W'' & a lined out proof. The receiver band is marked with three proof marks & the S/N. The right side of the wrist band is marked ''NO.1MK.III*'', ''R.F.I.'', 1955. Left side of receiver band marked F.R. for factory refurbishment. The left side of the receiver is stamped with import markings. The receiver band is marked with two proofs & the S/N. barrel shank marked with more proofs. Tip of the upper handguard cap marked D.P. for drill purpose. The right ear of the rear sight protector marked C. More small proof marks on other metal parts. S/N mismatched bolt, S/N matching stock & forend cap. The bore is good to very good. Bright & shiny with strong rifling, but has some roughness throughout the bore & more concentrated roughness near the muzzle. The barrel holds a square post front sight with protective ears, & a tangent U-notch marked 2 to 20. The stock carries a brass trapdoor buttplate that has dings & wear. It has a old pull through inside. The rifle both bottom sling loops. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 300 to 800
