Izhevsk, Model: M91/30 Mosin, Spanish civil war, Cal: 7.62x54mmR, MFG: 1936, S/N: 188788, bolt action rifle, 29'' barrel.
HISTORY: During the Spanish civil war (1936-39), the USSR shipped Hundreds of thousands of rifles to the Republican forces to help them fight Francos Nationalists. After Nationalists forces of Franco won, they rounded up all the rifles they had, refurbished them & stamped with a ''MP/8'' in flaming bomb on the stock. The ''MADE IN U.S.S.R.'' stamp or sometimes seen ''MADE IN U.R.R.S'' was added by Spanish importers when they were shipped to Spain from Russia.
CONDITION: The straight wrist wood stock is very good with small nicks, dings, scratches, & wear from use/age. The stock was lightly sanded, forend was shaped & re-finished, this was done when it was refurbished by Francos government & other Mosins that were refurbished by them show the same shaped/ thinned down forend. upper handguard is a Spanish made replacement without metal end caps. The left cheek marked with a ''MP'', ''8'' in flaming bomb stamp. The metal has a arsenal re-blue, again done by Francos government when it was refurbished. Some of the Russian markings are faded from the re-blue. The blued metal finish rates 97% overall with some light thinning. The top of the receiver band is marked ''MADE IN'', ''U.S.S.R.''. The barrel shank is marked with a hammer & sickle in a wheat wreath, over ''1936R'', the S/N, & many Russian proofs. All parts S/N mismatched. Bolt & components marked all Tula star marked, barrel bands & other metal parts are a mix of Izhevsk & Tula marked. The bore is good. Its bright with consistent light roughness throughout. The barrel holds a Spanish replaced, Mauser style barleycorn front sight, & a Tangent U-notch rear sight marked 1 to 20. The stock carries a blued steel buttplate, has wear showing gray & spots of brown patina. Mismatched S/N stamped into upper extension of buttplate. Rifle has both Russian sling wells with a sling bar added to the rear well. Rifle has a cleaning rod. A beautiful example of a Spanish civil war used & survived Mosin.
