Gardone Val Trompia (Italy), M91/38 Carcano, Cal: 6.5 x 52mm Carcano, MFG: 1941, S/N: RU7377, Bolt action rifle, 17 1/2'' barrel.
CONDITION: The original straight wrist beech wood stock is good as being cut down, sanded & oiled. Oil stains & grain pops on the buttstock around the buttplate. There are a couple small cracks around the magazine/trigger guard & upper tang. The top of the wrist has a resin filled crack repair. Bottom of forend still has channel for the folding bayonet. The metal is a mix of original blue in protected areas, gun metal gray & brown patina with a speckling of roughness throughout. Markings are slightly faded from rust/wear. The rear of the barrel is marked with the S/N, two small proofs, ''GARDONE VI'', ''1941-XIX''. The rear sight block has two small proofs on the left side & the top is marked ''CAL 6.5''. Left side of the front sight base is marked ''C.A.P.''. The firing pin/striker cap is missing & has been replaced with a modern nut & washer. The bore is very good. Its bright with strong rifling & only has some light roughness. The barrel holds a blade front sight with a fixed V-notch rear sight. The stock carries a steel trapdoor buttplate. Buttplate has roughness & pitting, trapdoor is stuck shut. Rifle is missing both sling mounts. Rifle appears to mechanically function fine. A handy little carbine that would make a great utilitarian shooter. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 100 to 150
