Manufacture d.armes de Saint-Etienne (MAS) (France), MLE 1949-56, Cal. 7.62x51mm/.308 Win, MFG: 1960, S/N: G71118, Semi-auto rifle, 19 3/4'' barrel.
CONDITION: The two piece, semi-pistol grip walnut stock is very good with usually nicks, dings, dents scratches & wear from use/age. No visible cartouches on the stock. The parkerized metal finish on the receiver rates 75% with mostly full coverage but spots of thinning & light rust speckling. The left side of the receiver is marked with the S/N, ''MAS'', ''MLE 1949-56'', ''CAL. 7,62'' over ''308 CAL''. The original ''CAL. 7.5'' marking was over stamped ''7.62'' when it was re-chambered by the military. The left side scope rails on the receiver is marked with import markings. Top of the bolt is marked ''DN 72'', ''VW''. The barrel has a pipe slide over it & tack welded in two spots at the rear. This was done to mount the night sight attachment without the original rifle grenade launching spigot that was mounted to all these rifles, as the spigot was wider in diameter than the barrel. The bottom of the mag is marked ''.308''. The right side of the receiver, by the rear sight has two holes drilled & tapped for mounting a scope. The bore is very good. Its bright with strong rifling but has consistent roughness throughout. The barrel holds a clamped-on MAS 49/56 Night sight. Large notch sight with white alignment squares. The rear of the receiver holds a aftermarket small aperture sight, sight leaf is present, but the sight spring & leaf pin is missing. The stock carries a steel buttplate, worn gray with light patina. The rifle has both left side sling mounts & comes with a original leather sling. Rifle comes with one 10 Rd. mag. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 300 to 700
