Colt, 1878, CAL: 38-40, MFG: 1898, SN: 38471, Double Action Revolver. 7 1/2'' barrel. Checkered synthetic grips are in good condition with very little handling wear but a large crack on the bottom of the right grip panel. The original bluing has worn and toned to a thin brown patina with some gun metal grey and splotches original bluing on low wear areas, most notably the top and bottom of the ejector housing and the inside of the frame beneath the cylinder. Markings on the top of the barrel read Colts PT. F. A. MFG Co Hartford CT. U.S.A.. Bore is good, rifling has darkened with even roughness and some pitting. Mechanically solid with very little play in the cylinder after the trigger has been depressed. Front blade sight integral to the barrel, rear sight trough is cut into the top of the frame.
