UNIQUE ENGRAVED Colt, Single Action Army, CAL: 45 Colt, MFG: 1901, SN: 209528, Single Action Revolver. 5 1/2'' barrel.
HISTORY: This revolver was engraved by master engraver Bill Johns. Johns first began engraving around 1976, his specialty was engraving guns of the Old West, especially Colt Single Actions. Bill Johns signed the firearms he engraved with his initials ''BJ''. In his earlier work, he simply engraved the initials but later in his career he would engrave his initials inside a scroll. He typically signed Colt SAAs on the flat in front of the trigger guard. Johns usually charged about $2,000 for an average engraving job, which required some 75 hours of labor. Notable firearms he engraved include a gun for director John Ford after completion of the movie ''How the West Was Won'' (1962), as well as some firearms that appeared in the movie ''Maverick'' (1994). Johns also engraved a matching pair of Colt Single Action Army revolvers for famed exhibition shooter Bob Munden.
CONDITION: The mother of pearl grips are in excellent condition, solid with very light handling wear. The gold plated finish is excellent. Bore is fair, very bright with little to no roughness, but very thin rifling. Mechanically solid, the cylinder has substantial side to side play and some back and forth play. Front blade sight is integral to the barrel, rear sight trough is cut into the top of the frame. Comes with a letter providing some details on the engravings. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 3000 to 6000
