Smith & Wesson, .455 MK II Hand Ejector Second Model, CAL: 45 Colt MFG: 1915-17. SN: 33743, Double Action Revolver. 6 1/2'' barrel.
MARKINGS: The gun has several markings indicating its use with the British military, Specifically the Royal Engineers, and its sale into the commercial market. The left side of the barrel has a cluster of various proof marks including commercial and military proof marks above the Smith & Wesson markings. The cylinder has British proof marks between each cylinder notch as well as a proof mark next to the serial number on the face of the cylinder. The cylinder crane has a British double arrow sold out of service mark. The frame is marked on the left side between the barrel and the cylinder with a British proof mark and a British double arrow sold out of service mark. There are several markings on the left side of the frame above the grip including (from left to right): a British proof, a British double arrow sold out of service mark, two unit markings reading P.T.G. and R.E. (Royal Engineers), and a column of British markings including a proof mark and a mark reading II denoting the military designation of the pistol (MKII).
CONDITION: The checkered wood grips with S&W medallion are very good with some handling wear & small contusions. The bottom of the right grip panel is stamped RYL. ENGRS.. The blued finish rates 97% with some handling wear & patina. The case hardening on the trigger and hammer is excellent. Bore is excellent, slightly thinned but very bright rifling with little to no roughness. Mechanically solid, the cylinder has little side to side & back & forth play, the hammer & trigger mechanism functions well. Rudimentary sights, front blade sight is integral to the barrel, rear sight trough is cut into the frame. FFL or C&R Req - Value: 500 to 1000
