Pryse & Cashmore, Model 1855 ''George H. Daw 57 Threadneedle'', CAL: 54 Bore (.457 Caliber), MFG: Circa 1860's. SN: 1082, Double/Single Action Percussion Revolver, 6'' barrel.
HISTORY: These early double action percussion revolvers were largely hand-made, although some parts were machine-made. No patent was taken out for these revolvers under Daw's name; the mechanism is based on Pryse & Cashmore's Patent. Pryse & Cashmore manufactured all of these weapons, either as complete weapons or partially finished for completion at 57 Threadneedle St. London. The amount of hand fitting that needed to be done on these revolvers substantially drove up the cost which is one of the main reasons this gun failed to get military contracts.
MARKINGS: The top of the barrel is marked ''George H. Daw 57 Threadneedle St. London Patent No 1082''. The gun has various British proof marks on the barrel and cylinder. The side of the cylinder is marked ''No 1082'', the face of the cylinder has the numbers 1-5 marked between each chamber.
When compared to other Model 1855's, it is clear that ''Patent No 1082'' is the serial number, not the patent number. Other guns of the same model have the same markings with different numbers.
CONDITION: The checkered wood grips are in excellent condition, solid with light handling wear. It appears as thought the gun was badly rusted and cleaned thoroughly at some point. The gun is mostly a gun metal grey with shallow clean pitting throughout. There are some splotches of light patina as well as some remaining original blue in low wear areas like the front of the hammer and the right side of the barrel between the barrel and the ram rod housing. Bore is fair, the rifling is thin but bright with substantial roughness and pitting. Mechanically solid, seems to function well. The cylinder does have substantial play that is reduced by the hammer being cocked or the trigger being fully depressed. Front sight post and rear sight notch are integral to the barrel. Antique, no FFL Req. - Value: 1200 to 2400
