J. Stevens & Co., Early Model 34 1/2 ''Hunter's Pet'', CAL: .25 RF, MFG: 1886-98. SN: 4488, Single Shot, 17 5/8'' barrel.
HISTORY: these mid to late 1800's target rifles were meant to be portable, light weight, and accurate. They have stocks that slide into a dovetail cut on the bottom of the grip and are secured by a screw in the back of the grip. These antique ''Pocket Rifles'' are specifically exempt from the NFA and do not require an SBR tax stamp even though they have a short barrel and a stock.
CONDITION: The wood grips are in excellent condition, solid with minimal wear. The nickeled stock is good, solid with some pitting and rust. The bluing on the front of the barrel has toned to a mix of blue and brown patina, the bluing on the octagonal rear portion of the barrel has worn very thin and toned to a brown patina. The frame has worn to gun metal grey with very light clean pitting and some thin dark patina. Bore is good, the rifling is thin but very bright with light even roughness. Mechanically very solid, seems to function well. Aperture sights, Rear aperture sight is mounted to the back of the grip, front sight post is set in a dovetail cut on the barrel. Antique, no FFL Req - Value: 1000 to 3000
