J. Stevens & Co., New Model Pocket Rifle First Issue, CAL: .22 (Probably Long Rifle), MFG: 1869-96. SN: 1279, Single Shot, 15'' barrel.
HISTORY: these mid to late 1800's target rifles were meant to be portable, light weight, and accurate. They have stocks that slide into a dovetail cut on the bottom of the grip and are secured by a screw in the back of the grip. These antique ''Pocket Rifles'' are specifically exempt from the NFA and do not require an SBR tax stamp even though they have a short barrel and a stock.
CONDITION: The wood grips are in very good condition, solid with some handling wear, scratches, and dings. The nickeled stock is very good with some exposed brass. The bluing on the barrel has approximately 97% coverage. The front half of the barrel appears to have original blue that has worn thin and toned to an even brown patina, and the rear half of the barrel appears to have been reblued. The nickeled finish on the frame is very good with some exposed brass, scratches, and dings. Bore is poor, the rifling is still visible but is very thin and dark with substantial roughness. Mechanically very solid, seems to function well. Target sights, Rear notch sight is screwed to the top of the barrel, front shrouded sight with secondary sight post is set in a dovetail cut on the barrel. Antique, no FFL Req. - Value: 750 to 1400
