Eudal Camps Spanish Miquelet Flintlock Pistol, CAL: 62, MFG: Circa 1730's-40's, SN: NONE, Flintlock Muzzleloader, 7 1/2'' barrel.
HISTORY: The word Miquelete or miguelete, Cataln & Castilian diminutives of the Christian name Miguel, was the term initially associated with irregular Catalan soldiers and later applied to a specific type of firearm lock. It was supposedly derived from the name of an early leader, Miquelot de Prats, who served in this capacity during the final years of the seventeenth century. Miquelet pistols were popular in Spain from the early 17th Century until appx 1825. This particular example was made appx 1730's-40's in Ripoll, Spain, by Eudal Camps.
MARKINGS: The top barrel flat is marked ''EUD/CA/MPS'' inside a bottle shaped emblem with crown & the frizzen is marked ''TOR/NTO'' inside a bottle shaped emblem with crown. Both the stock & all the metal components are all tastefully hand engraved with decorative floral scroll patterns & some ornamental scroll.
CONDITION: The wood stock is good & solid. There is a 2'' repaired break just below the muzzle, alongside other contusions, scrapes & dings. The stock displays some well-done floral & ornamental carving. There is an inlaid blank silver oval initial plate on the backstrap & an engraved silver butt cap. Brass components are very good, with some light oxidization around some edges. The barrel, side plate & flintlock mechanism are all fully toned to a smooth brown patina. Bore is fair, dark & rough throughout. No sights. This pistol comes with some brief research paperwork going into further detail about Miquelet pistols. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 1500 to 2500
